Trout In the Classroom Activity

On Friday, May 11th, Union Elementary's 5th grade class (Mrs. Bacorn's class) and Tennerton's 5th grade (Mrs. Anderson's class) joined with Mr. Cutlip's class from Hacker Valley Elementary and stocked trout raised in their schools. The Trout in the Classroom program, initiated and funded by Trout Unlimited and Williams Energy, has been active in Upshur County for 8 years and in Webster County for 4. Support from WVU Extension, Craig Presar and Jim Walker, WVDNR Fish biologist and Kevin Yokum and Steve Hall from Williams provided educational activities at Holly River State Park. Students receive trout eggs in the fall from Bowden Hatchery in Randolph County and raise them in a freshwater tank until the spring. This program supports a variety of college and career readiness standards and brings learning into the hands of our students.
