Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

We are pleased to announce the kick off of the Imagination Library for Upshur County. Founded by Dolly Parton, the Imagination Library mails a book each month to children living in Upshur County who are between the ages of 0-5. This could mean our youngest children can build a personal library of 60 books by the time they begin school. Signing up is simple; parents can register online or complete the paper registration form (click on the title of this article to find the form) and mail it in. There is no cost for families to participate, all costs are covered by Upshur County Schools with the Campaign for Grade Level Reading Grant.

Please help spread the word so all eligible children can reap the benefits. Again, parents and/or guardians can register online at www.imaginationlibrary.wv.gov or via a paper registration form found by clicking the title of this article.

RCES House of Savant Meeting

The RCES students met for their first House Meeting last week. There are 3 Houses; Savant (pronounced sevah; house of knowledge and leadership), Bravoure (pronounced brehver, representing valor and courage) and Digne (pronounced deen, house of merit and worth).
All students were sorted into houses in a ceremony held earlier this year. Students earn points for acts of kindness, attendance, manners and respect. Within these houses, they identify activities/projects to develop throughout the year. The House of Savant had Gene Thorne from Trout Unlimited speak about their organization (conservation and management of streams). They will have Trout in the Classroom again this year as one of their projects. The House Of Bravoure is focusing on health and fitness and are working to contribute to the Billion Mile Race by counting their steps. The House of Digne's first project was making posters for the BUHS soccer seniors. All houses will be supporting a charity that students will decide on as the year progresses.
