This winter Mr. McClain’s 6th grade science class welcomed a special visitor from the WVU STEAM program, Ms. Angie McDaniel. Ms. McDaniel and Mr. McClain guided the students in the planning, construction, and operation of “Wiggle Bots”. The primary goals included understanding mechanical waves, wavelength and changes in action through different mediums, and the basics of robotic design. Students also learned how to change their designs to demonstrate different wave patterns, creating a variety of artwork for the classroom. The activity was such a hit that students requested an additional day the following week!

Aiden Courtney, Holly Lewis, Ethan Manspeaker, Anya Morehead, and Scotty Woody all represented Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School this weekend at the 2nd Annual Region 8 Middle School Honor Band at Philip Barbour Highschool. Under the direction of Michael Cale, the students played with other nominated players from the region on more difficult repertoire and performed a wonderful concert. We are so proud of these talented budding musicians at our school.

Today in 7th grade, students inMrs. Butler's art class explored stop motion animation. These students created animated GIFs with random objects from the room and by step by step drawing their own photos. The students were excited to share their finished animated stories with their peers!

6th grade students in Mrs. Orr's class made some delicious French toast for their first cooking lab!

Happy Thursday!
Actor and producer Tyler Perry said, “I don’t think the dreams die. I think people give up. I think it gets too hard.” Your school counselors want you to remember that sometimes achieving your dream IS hard, but we, your teachers, and principals are here to help you not give up! Spend some time today reflecting on some struggles you have overcome in the past and how you can learn to overcome difficult things in the future.
Remember, you can do hard things!

Thank you for supporting our school book fair!

Happy Tuesday, Buccaneers!
Singer Suki Waterhouse said, “Don’t stop yourself from doing something you want to do because of what others might think. Only you know yourself best.”
It’s day two of National School Counselor Week and today’s quiet focus is “WEARING YOUR THINKING CAPS” for positive thinking! Today, your counselors want to ask you to think about if there is anything holding you back from making positive choices or from trying something new? A new challenge could be the first step to discovering or reaching your dreams.
Have a terrific day!

Hello B-UMS Students!
Today starts National School Counselor Week 2023! More than 100,00 school counselors nationwide will be participating in the week’s festivities. Many schools will be hosting special events and activities to celebrate this important week. Your counselors at B-UMS have created quiet focus days for you to reflect and think daily about how you can make a difference!
Today’s quiet focus day theme is: “DREAMING BIG.”
Author Carl Sandburg said, “Nothing happens unless first we dream.”
We want to encourage you to take a minute today to think about your dreams. Dreams don’t have to be about school, grades, a job, or a career. They can be about your feelings or even helping someone else achieve their dreams. What dreams do you have? What is one thing you can do today that moves you one step closer to that dream?
Have a great Monday!
