Buckhannon, WVAugust 28, 2025 - In a heartwarming display of community support, First Community Bank has donated more than 4,000 food items to Upshur County Schools’ Backpack Program, a vital initiative that helps ensure students have access to nutritious meals outside of school hours.

The generous donation was organized by Darla Oldaker and Karen Knavenshue, whose efforts helped mobilize the bank’s resources and community spirit to make a meaningful impact. The food items will be distributed to students in need by Community in Schools personnel, who work closely with families to provide support and remove barriers to student success.

Upshur County Schools expressed deep gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the importance of strong community partnerships in supporting student well-being. “We are incredibly thankful to First Community Bank for their commitment to our students,” said a district spokesperson. “This kind of support makes a real difference in the lives of children and families across our county.”

The Backpack Program is part of a broader effort to address food insecurity among students and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
