On March 18–19, BUHS juniors participated in a Mastery Prep SAT Bootcamp, gaining valuable strategies for both the Reading/Writing and Math sections of the SAT. Students worked through a test prep workbook alongside a certified SAT prep trainer, learning tips, techniques, and confidence-building approaches to help them succeed on test day.
This marks the second year BUHS has partnered with Mastery Prep. Feedback from last year’s juniors showed the bootcamp provided helpful tools that supported their SAT performance. We’re hopeful this year’s students will see the same success!
👏 Great work to our juniors for putting in the effort and preparing for what’s next!

Snow Day Waiver Approved | 🗓️ No Calendar Changes
Upshur County Schools has received approval from the WVDE State Superintendent for our snow day waiver request. As a result, the district calendar remains the same, no makeup days are required at this time.
We’ll continue to monitor weather conditions. If future inclement weather impacts the calendar, we will update families and staff immediately through our website, social media, and direct notifications.
Thank you for your patience and support.
🎉 Congratulations to our outstanding Upshur County Science Fair participants at the WV State Competition!
Ben impressed judges with his physics project, “How Much Track to Loop the Loop?” taking 1st place, while Liezl earned an Honorable Mention for her radio‑frequency research—and even passed the highest HAM radio certification as just a 4th grader!
We’re proud of these young innovators representing Upshur County Schools at the State Science Fair! 🔬✨

👀 Check out the news article about the new gate at TES! We are so grateful to our community partners.
Upshur County Schools is thrilled to introduce Smart Mouth Pizza a fresh, restaurant‑quality pizza experience now available in our cafeterias at BUMS & BUHS! Smart Mouth brings real ingredients, including a whole‑grain honey‑wheat crust and 100% mozzarella cheese, delivering a high‑quality meal students love.
Not only is it delicious, but Smart Mouth Pizza is designed specifically for schools and meets federal nutrition standards — giving students a tasty option they can feel good about.
We’re excited to serve this new, high‑quality food to our students and can’t wait for everyone to try it! 🍕✨

On 02/20/26 our elementary Systems of Support Class brought the spirit of the Chinese New Year to life by creating their very own Chinese Dragon! Students learned about the traditions, symbolism, and rich culture behind this global celebration—then worked together to design a colorful dragon full of creativity and teamwork.
Mr. Klaus shared, “Our students shine when they get to learn through hands-on experiences. This project let them explore culture, art, and teamwork all at once.”
We are so proud of their hard work and excitement for learning. 🐲✨

Thank you for your patience during the weather closures this past week. We know the changes have been difficult, and we appreciate your support. We are planning to return to our normal school schedule next week, as long as the weather allows.
Please remember that some roads may still be unsafe. This means some buses might not be able to reach every stop. Students should also dress warmly, as temperatures will stay very cold.
The safety of our students and staff will always come first as we decide whether to keep schools open or closed. We will continue to update you as needed.
Thank you for working with us.
