🚨 STOP MEANS STOP 🚨 Several drivers have been caught running the stop sign on our school buses so far this year. This isn’t just illegal—it’s dangerous.
When a school bus turns on red lights and extends its stop arm, children are loading or unloading. Passing a stopped bus puts lives at risk.
🛑 It’s not worth the risk. 🛑 It’s not worth the ticket. 🛑 It’s not worth a life.
Let’s protect our students. Stop for the bus. Every time. Upshur County Schools transportation staff reports all drivers who violate this law.

What do teachers do in the summer? They work toward building a stronger better rigorous cirriculum through course design! Teachers have been pacing units, analyzing data and priority standards, and mapping the instruction for the school year during the work sessions. There was wonderful representation from all grade levels each day. Thank you to all teachers who came out and worked hard to ensure that all of our students receive what they need during the 25/26 school year!

Upshur County Schools is beginning the process of developing an updated policy to address personal electronic devices, so we are compliant with newly passed legislation. This includes but is not limited to cell phones, smart watches, laptops, and portable gaming systems not provided by the county school system. Our goal in updating this policy is to allow our staff and students to Be Present. This means our schools and in particular all learning spaces including classrooms are free from the distractions of personal electronic devices. This will allow our teachers and students to focus during the scheduled learning time without the distractions these devices can bring to teaching and learning.
We will work to make this policy easily understood with appropriate consequences when violated. Our policy will also provide ways for parents and students to contact each other or the school in case of emergencies or changes in dismissal needs. Upshur County Schools will follow WV Code 18-2-46, and state board policy including required exceptions. We will have a 30-day comment period from June 10-July 1, 2025, to allow for feedback from our community and families. The finalized policy will be implemented for staff beginning August 11, 2025, and for students on August 14, 2025.
Watch for additional updates as we work through the process of development and approval to provide an optimal learning environment for our staff and students.
